One can\u2014and indeed should\u2014enjoy the sun; the Estonian summer is short! However, it is possible to enjoy the sun safely.<\/p>\n<p>Protecting the delicate skin of babies and children from the sun is especially important. In contrast, the bioavailability of ferrous sulfate and ferrous fumarate is below 30%, meaning these iron salts must be administered in doses at least twice as large to achieve the same result. Typically, the bioavailability of iron salts ranges from 25% to 40%. Scientific studies have found that iron in the form of iron bisglycinate is absorbed two to four times more effectively than the widely used ferrous sulfate or fumarate. Iron bisglycinate is gentler on the digestive system, meaning it is less likely to cause common gastrointestinal discomfort. It has a lower oxidative effect and is less sensitive to interactions with compounds found in food. Sensitive individuals can take iron bisglycinate with a light meal. However, one should definitely avoid coffee and tea (for one hour before and up to two hours after taking the iron) as well as high calcium intake (including cow&#8217;s milk, oat milk, and soy milk products) around the time of administration.<\/p>\n<p>Iron bisglycinate is a chelated ferrous (divalent) iron salt. Consequently, such products are unsuitable for diabetics or for daily use as an iron supplementation regimen.<\/p>\n<p>When using hemoglobin-based supplements, the hemoglobin content must be considered. One gram of hemoglobin contains approximately 3.4 mg of heme iron; meaning 500 mg of hemoglobin yields about 1.7 mg of iron\u2014a relatively low amount of heme iron. This quantity is insufficient for addressing diagnosed iron deficiency issues; therapeutic dosages typically range from 30\u201360 mg of iron daily for iron diglycinate and 100\u2013200 mg daily for other iron salts, depending on the specific condition.<\/p>\n<p>Although the body absorbs animal-derived (heme) iron more efficiently than plant-derived (non-heme) iron, the simultaneous intake of vitamin C enhances the absorption of plant-based iron. However, caution is advised regarding vitamin C. Vitamin C is acidic, and iron is a highly reactive metal; while vitamin C does boost iron absorption, only a small amount is required. When combined with iron, Vitamin C can become pro-oxidative\u2014meaning it may increase the risk of oxidative stress. If you are using our iron supplements, do not take a separate Vitamin C supplement, as this can also increase the risk of digestive discomfort. Our iron supplements already contain Vitamin C derived from organic acerola cherry powder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> In Estonia, dietary supplement manufacturers are not required to specify the ratio of heme to non-heme iron. Instead, pay attention to the total iron content listed on the product. Supplements claiming to contain heme iron often actually include added non-heme ferrous iron (such as ferrous sulfate or fumarate\u2014iron salts with low bioavailability that are more likely to irritate the stomach), while the packaging lists only the total elemental iron content (heme plus non-heme iron).
