E-POODIB12-drops
Why vitamin B12 is important?
The name of vitamin B12, cobalamin, is derived from its cobalt content. Vitamin B12 is the only water-soluble vitamin that is stored in the body and has a very long half-life—approximately one year in the liver.
We need vitamin B12 for the normal metabolism of amino acids, the normal formation of red blood cells, and the normal development of nervous tissue. We obtain active forms of vitamin B12 from animal-based foods and from plant-based foods fortified with vitamin B12.
Only 3 ingredients
The B12-drops contain only three ingredients: purified water, methylcobalamin (vitamin B12), and a drop of lemon juice to ensure shelf life. Methylcobalamin is pinkish in color, which gives the product its pink hue. The pink color also helps prevent under-dosing during administration (in case a drop misses the mouth).
2 strength
One drop of the product for infants and babies contains 100 μg of vitamin B12. The low vitamin B12 content makes it easier for doctors to provide individualized instructions and reduces the risk of administration errors (such as under- or overdosing). One drop of the product for the whole family contains 500 μg of vitamin B12. In cases of low vitamin B12 levels, the standard regimen is 500 μg daily for both infants and adults. To minimize the risk of under- or overdosing, five drops of the infant-specific product can be administered to a baby.
Vitamin B12
We use methylcobalamin—the active form of vitamin B12—in our products. The methylcobalamin used is one of the purest forms of B12, produced in an environmentally friendly manner under the patented MecobalActive® brand.
Charity
Charity is very important to us. For every dietary supplement purchased, we make a donation to the Children's Fund of Tartu University Hospital.
Absorption
Only 2 μg of vitamin B12 is absorbed via active transport, with an additional 1% absorbed passively. Passive absorption is a particularly important factor with dietary supplements, where vitamin B12 levels are high compared to those found in food. Vitamin B12 absorption differs from that of other B vitamins: for active absorption to occur, B12 must first bind to a glycoprotein called intrinsic factor in the stomach, and it is absorbed only in the final section of the small intestine.
Developed with doctors
The B12 drops are the result of extensive development work, during which we also consulted a renowned pediatric neurologist from the Children's Hospital. We manufacture and test the B12-drops in Estonia.
How to use?
B12-drops can be administered in two ways: placed on the tongue and swallowed for intestinal absorption, or placed under the tongue for absorption through the mucous membrane (if intestinal absorption is impaired or compromised). Vitamin B12 is best absorbed through the intestine. For low vitamin B12 levels, the standard regimen is 500 μg of vitamin B12 daily for one month. For infants, the regimen consists of 5 drops (5 x 100 μg) of infant vitamin B12 drops. For older children and adults, "whole-family" vitamin B12 drops can be used, where a single drop contains 500 μg.
