E-POODIWhen iron stores need replenishing, turn to Nôgel.
Iron is a component of hemoglobin. The function of hemoglobin is to transport oxygen throughout the body. If the body's iron stores become excessively depleted, this can manifest as fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, pale skin, heart palpitations, dizziness, irritability, and, in rarer cases, chest pain.
There are many different symptoms, and a specific symptom does not always indicate an iron-related issue. Iron deficiency is a very common problem, with women of childbearing age, pregnant women, the elderly, and children being at the greatest risk. People who tend to consume excessive amounts of dairy products face a somewhat higher risk of developing iron-related problems, as calcium and the cow's milk protein casein inhibit iron absorption.
No additives
The products are made without artificial additives, preservatives, colorants, or sweeteners. All our iron products are tested gluten-free and also suitable for vegans.
Natural vitamin C
We use organic acerola (a type of sour cherry) as a natural source of vitamin C in our iron tablets, and orange juice concentrate in our iron syrups. Vitamin C enhances iron absorption. However, Vitamin C is an acid and iron is a metal—and acids and metals react with each other. When combined with iron, vitamin C can have a pro-oxidative effect, meaning it promotes oxidative stress. For this reason, our iron supplements contain just the right amount of vitamin C, rather than large doses. There is no need to take separate vitamin C supplements alongside our products.
Pure ingredients
We use only natural ingredients as bulking agents—materials grown without synthetic plant protection products or fertilizers.
Developed and tested in Estonia
Our food supplements are developed and tested in Estonia. We manufacture tablet-form products in Finland, and liquid and powder products in Estonia.
Iron bisglycinate
We use highly bioavailable iron bisglycinate with 25+ years of scientific research from infants to elderly. It is a chelated iron salt that is gentle to intestine and has a very good effect not only on hemoglobin, but also on ferritin (iron stores). All our iron supplements are short-acting meaning that the iron is absorbed in around an hour. Then iron is in the right place at the right time to get the best absorption.
Charity
For every product, we make a donation to the Tartu University Hospital Children's Foundation.
How to use iron
It is best to take ferrous (divalent) iron supplements (e.g., iron bisglycinate) in the morning on an empty stomach, although taking them in the morning is not strictly mandatory. Iron should not be taken alongside other medications, as it can bind to their active ingredients, thereby reducing or even increasing their effectiveness. Individuals sensitive to iron may take iron bisglycinate with a light meal if necessary (while avoiding the simultaneous consumption of calcium-fortified foods, dairy products, coffee, and tea). Iron bisglycinate is an iron salt that is gentler on the digestive system and is generally well-tolerated. Research indicates that iron bisglycinate is one of the best iron salts for all age groups, from infants to the elderly; studies comparing various iron salts have rated its effectiveness as at least twice that of widely used ferrous sulfate or ferric hydroxide polymaltose complex.
Do not take iron with the following: coffee, tea, cow's milk products, and calcium-rich foods. Caffeine, tannins, calcium, and the cow's milk protein casein all inhibit iron absorption. There should be an interval of at least four hours between taking iron and the thyroid hormone thyroxine. You can take the iron supplement with water or juice (e.g., apple or orange juice effectively masks the metallic taste of iron); all Nôgel iron supplements contain an optimal amount of vitamin C to significantly boost the absorption of non-heme iron while simultaneously reducing oxidative stress (levels of free iron).
Avoid coffee, tea, cow's milk products, and calcium-fortified foods for one hour before and two hours after taking iron (this applies when consuming iron-rich foods as well, not just when taking iron supplements).
