Why vitamin D is important?
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin known as the "sunshine vitamin." UV rays activate a specific form of cholesterol in the body, converting it into vitamin D. Since sufficient vitamin D can only be obtained at our latitude during the summer months, taking vitamin D supplements is recommended from at least September to June. However, given the well-known harmful effects of solar UV radiation, year-round supplementation may also be advisable.
The most important role of vitamin D is regulating calcium absorption in the body. The active form of vitamin D—calcitriol—is a key factor in calcium absorption. Vitamin D is also essential for supporting blood clotting and heart function, reducing the risk of infection and diabetes, promoting the development of bones and teeth, and improving phosphorus absorption.
Vitamin D3 as cholecalsiferol
We use vitamin D3—or cholecalciferol—which is produced from sheep's wool lanolin (wool grease). Lanolin-based vitamin D is the most widely used form because it is known to be well absorbed by the body.
Natural ingredients
Our D3-drops contain only vitamin D3 and certified organic oils.
Cold-pressed oil
For the first time in Estonia, we are using Estonian sea buckthorn oil extract (based on olive oil) in our vitamin D3 drops. We use extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil; for the baby drops, we use cold-pressed olive oil made from 100% organic Arbequina olives.
Tested vitamin D content
We verify the product's vitamin D content after every batch. This is crucial to ensure that the product has been manufactured correctly.
Charity
Charity is very important to us. For every dietary supplement purchased, we make a donation to the Children's Fund of Tartu University Hospital.
4 different strength
Vitamin D3 drops come in four different strengths: 4,000 IU (100 μg), 1,200 IU (30 μg), and—for babies and children—80 IU (2 μg) and 440 IU (11 μg) per drop.
Should you use vitamin D throughout the whole year?
We obtain vitamin D naturally through the sun's UVB radiation. However, solar UVB radiation also causes premature skin aging and sunburn, and increases the risk of skin cancer. It is also difficult to determine exactly how much vitamin D we get from the sun on a daily basis during the summer. Keep in mind that sunscreen products reduce the natural production of vitamin D because they protect us from UVB radiation. Therefore, vitamin D supplementation can be used year-round if you protect your skin from the sun's UV rays with sunscreen or clothing. Remember that infants and young children are given vitamin D throughout the year because their skin is still very delicate and requires proper protection from the sun.
